The city of Cádiz, a Spanish gem of rare and ancient beauty, is not as geared up for tourism as Andalusia’s other major sister cities but, as visitor interest grows, it is gradually adapting to the region’s high tourism standards. We’ve already told you what to see in Cádiz, but now we want to help you answer a perfectly reasonable question, which is essential when preparing your trip to Cádiz: where to stay?
Most of the best hotels are located in the historic centre of Cádiz, near Plaza de San Juan de Dios, halfway between the Cathedral and Plaza España: in this area, moreover, you will find the most affordable options, but you will encounter some difficulty finding parking. If, instead, you want to stay in modern Cádiz, in the neighbourhoods situated before the Puertas de Tierra you will find hotels aimed at travellers seeking a seaside holiday along the coast.
If you choose this area, certainly less popular and somewhat more anonymous, you can leave your car near your accommodation (though don’t underestimate the time it can take to find a parking space!), catch a bus and reach the centre of Cádiz for your visit. Where to stay in Cádiz? The historic centre, a jewel on the Ocean
We can quite comfortably identify three main areas of Cádiz city centre: the one near the Cathedral, the area north of the Cathedral – near Plaza España and the port (there are some parking spaces here, and there is a large underground car park) – and the neighbourhood around the Caleta, the city’s beach.
All of these landmarks are close to one another and, whichever accommodation you choose, the best way to get from one attraction to another is on foot.
The Cathedral: stay a stone’s throw from the yellow dome
Near the Cathedral, among the streets of the Barrio del Populo, where the Roman Theatre and the other main places of interest in Cádiz are also located, there are some high-quality establishments and a few budget options. Needless to say… it’s almost impossible to find free parking, but try asking the hoteliers where it’s best to park. What do you think of the hotels we recommend?
- Hotel Boutique Convento Cádiz: a 500-metre walk from the Cathedral is this beautiful property converted from a 17th-century convent, still inhabited by monks. The highlight of this hotel? The stunning patio courtyard, worthy of the finest Andalusian palaces in the region. The rating it has been given (a mere one star) is really too low for a location like this, but the price is slightly higher than average.
- Hotel La Catedral: phenomenal location for this hotel right in the centre of Cádiz. It’s opposite the Cathedral, and you can even admire it while soaking in the pool on the building’s roof. The hotel, if anything, lacks personality and is simply functional.
- Hostal Colon: sometimes choosing a hostel can reveal delightful surprises: this is the case with this appealing property, which enjoys an excellent location and offers all the essential amenities at a highly competitive price. The Andalusian-style furnishings are also charming and authentic.
- Hostal Fantoni: budget, fairly clean, central. This hostel is perhaps a step below the Colon, but it’s ideal for those looking for a comfortable, good-value option.

North of the Cathedral, between the green Plaza de Mina and the majestic Plaza de España
Most of the interesting accommodation is located near the cathedral, but even in this area, not far from the port (where there is a large underground car park), there are some noteworthy options scattered among the streets around two iconic squares of Cádiz, so different from one another: Plaza de Mina and Plaza de España, the latter with its enormous Monument to the Constitution.
- Hotel Argantonio: one of the best and most original hotels in the city. The main feature of this beautiful hotel is its vibrant personality in blending architectural and interior design styles: Baroque, traditional and Andalusian. Each floor (and every room) contains some element of these three distinct styles.
- Hotel Las Cortes de Cadiz: it’s worth choosing this pleasant hotel because it is in excellent location and will spare you nasty surprises regarding cleanliness, an unfortunate constant for many other hotels in the city. Small but carefully furnished rooms. Take care with parking! The owners are very willing to give you advice, but in this area it is difficult to find free spaces.
- Hotel de Francia y París: a traditional hotel that places great emphasis on its strategic location: in the centre, not far from the main attractions. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed, although, all things considered, the final price could be excessive.

La Caleta, the beach in the heart of the city
- Parador Hotel Atlantico: in the wonderful panoramic area adjacent to the small cove of La Caleta, a few minutes’ walk from the Castillo de Santa Catalina, you won’t find any accommodation other than this very modern parador, which is considered the best hotel in Cádiz in the luxury category. The rooms, furnished in a modern style with glass predominantly used as a design element, offer a spectacular ocean view. The pools and all the communal areas are very attractive; parking costs €15 per day. Within a short walk are the Parque de Genoves and the Teatro de Falla.
Accommodation in modern Cádiz: hotels along the Paseo Marítimo
As we mentioned, another interesting area where to stay in Cádiz is the one that stretches just before the Puertas de Tierra, which mark the boundary between old Cádiz and the modern city. In this rather busy area there are some hotels located near the Paseo Marítimo, with more parking options than the historic centre, although you’ll still have to look around a bit to find a space. In any case, you can also reach the centre with a pleasant walk or by bus.
In general, the hotels in this area are modern and functional, especially for seaside tourism: if your intention is to spend a good deal of time on the beaches of Cádiz, these three places are perfect for you.
- Tryp Cadiz La Caleta: this seafront hotel is 3 km from the centre, but is well served by buses. From the outside it may give the impression of being a little old, but the interior is pleasantly modern, and it is worth the slightly above-average price. The beach in front of the hotel is equipped. Parking is chargeable; it may be worth driving around the nearby streets to find a free parking space.
- Hotel Monte Puertatierra: another luxury hotel with a modern style that, unlike the Tryp, looks attractive from the outside too. What really matters, however, is the excellent service it offers its guests: large, clean rooms equipped with all the comforts. Close to the beach and no more than a 20-minute walk from the historic centre: a stroll along the seafront will do you good!
- Hotel Playa Victoria: the third hotel we recommend is the Playa Victoria, which doesn’t differ much in quality or in the pros and cons from the other two, but boasts, according to many travellers, a ocean view that’s worth the price of admission — indeed, the booking!
